There’s nothing better for your mind and body than a visit to the spa. Most of us can’t afford to do this on a daily basis so why not turn your bathroom into your very own soothing sanctuary? To do this you need to create an atmosphere that appeals to all five senses, just like a top professional spa experience.
- Sight
The visual appeal of your bathroom is crucial so the first step is to declutter. If your bathroom is littered with makeup, toiletries and hair products, remove the items that you don’t use on a daily basis and store them in pretty storage boxes or a bathroom cabinet. Display what you do use daily in the best way possible. Use clear jars to store cotton wool, display towels in a wicker basket by the bath or place toiletries in a tray. This will help to maintain a relaxing atmosphere.

Lighting is essential; if you don’t have dimmable lights to create atmosphere, use candles.

Try to incorporate houseplants and flowers into your decor to add a touch of nature. Not only do they help to clear the air, but they also add a touch of colour. Because bathrooms are quite humid, the best plants to try are aloe vera, bamboo and philodendrons.

2. Touch
Fluffy towels are an absolute must for a spa-like experience. Invest in the best quality you can afford and they will last a long time, especially if you choose a neutral colour which will match even if you change your decor. If you have the space, you could even have a towel warming drawer!
These towels from The White Company are sumptuous! And there’s even a matching bath mat!
3. Smell
Aromatherapy can add to your spa experience by boosting relaxation and relieving stress. Essential oils, scented soaps and candles are the easiest way to set the mood. Scents like lavender, jasmine or vanilla all have aa calming effect so are ideal.
4. Sound
Sound is not something you may normally consider for your bathroom, but it does make for a true calming, spa experience . You can easily create a meditation playlist on your phone and play it through a waterproof bluetooth speaker.
5. Taste
For the ultimate spa experience, you need a glass of champagne or wine! And to keep it within easy reach, try a bath tray.
I’m a long way off having a spa bathroom, but it’s never too early to start planning!
