If you look closely at this photo, you can just about make out the pile of baby toys that are currently hiding behind my sofa! I’m sure this pile of toys will only grow as my granddaughter gets older so I’m starting to think about storage solutions. When my own children were growing up, I liked them to have easy access to their toys as I believe it’s important for children to have some choice over what they play with, but I also think they their toys should be stored in a way that makes it easy for children to learn to tidy up after themselves! So, with this in mind, I think a simple Ikea Kallax unit with storage boxes will be ideal! This one will fit perfectly behind my sofa when turned on it’s side.
Now there’s nothing wrong with the unit just as it is, but I’ve been browsing Pinterest and Instagram and I’ve seen some amazing ways to make these units look more interesting, so I thought I would share some of my favourites with you here.
The addition of legs lifts this one off the floor to give it a mid century modern look, which is very on trend at the minute. The tutorial on Delia’s blog makes this look very to easy to do, with just basic tools.
Here’s another version on legs but with the addition of drawers. This one looks so classy! I know the instructions are in French, but if you don’t speak or read French, I’m sure the instructions will be similar to the previous one!
This is an amazing idea for a kiddies bedroom or playroom, but unfortunately I don’t have the wall space for this! There are so many amazing ideas for kids storage using Kallax, I got a bit carried away and had to remind myself that I’m not a teacher anymore and my Kallax hack has to fit in with the rest of my decor!
Brit.co (see link above) has an amazing 12 ideas for hacks but I love this one with its touches of gold. So sophisticated!
I love the wooden base on this one but I’m not sure if something like this would work with a longer unit.
So you can see the type of look I’ll be going for, now I just have to persuade hubby that we need more storage!
